Back to Reality
Hey Everyone! Sorry for the long wait for our blog to be up-dated. As soon as we got back from Mexico it's kind of been non-stop, with preparations for school and all. But yes, we made it back, and yes we had a great time. I believe Andy would say that the trip was everything he needed it to be, and so would I. We both learned a ton, and will never forget the educational and fun summer in mexico.
Now, we are back to reality, both starting another year of teaching and doing our best to pour into the lives of all the kiddos, big and small. Andy has been working on his National Boards since march, but has kicked it up a notch or two since the school year has started. He wakes up around 5:00-5:30am, goes for a run, has time with God, and is at school by 7:00. He's there working until about 5:30pm, comes home and eats dinner, and is at it again- working until about 9:00! He amazes me daily with how dedicated and how much hard work he is putting in for our family. I am a proud bride, that is for sure!
This year I am teaching at McCollum Elementary school, where 60% of the kids their are special needs students. There are 15 different programs at the school to meet all the different needs, and close to 100 staff. I am very excited about being at this school, but must say a little nervous too. I don't have a whole lot of experience teaching special needs kids, or making the proper modifications in my lessons, but with God's help and wisdom, and the guidance of those with the experience, I will by the end of this year, that is for sure. I'm pretty sure I will be the one to learn the most this year, out of all my students. I've taught just two days, and already have seen a number of them. They are such beautiful children, all so very different in their capabilities to function, but all have something special about them. I am looking forward to getting to know them and how best to love them with my music teaching. We teachers sure need lots of prayer, so feel free to pray regularly for us to be lights to all we come in contact with. May God be glorified in this new school year.
